JANINE McGRATH - PRINCIPAL

Janine has been involved in dance for over 40 years. She has trained in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, National Character, Modern, Contemporary, Flamenco, Folk, Ballroom and Song & Dance.

A Diploma of Teaching led to a period as a teacher in Primary Schools, integrating various areas of the arts with general class work. However Janine's aspirations were directed more toward choreography and dance teaching and in 1987 she successfully co-created a Jazz syllabus, which formed the foundation of the highly regarded Southern Federation of Dance.

In 1996 and 1997 she was a member of the steering committee for the Guidelines for Australian Dance Teachers, which led to the creation of competency standards for Australian dance teachers.

In the early 90's Janine upgraded her teaching diploma to a Graduate Diploma of Education (Visual & Performing Arts) and opened Bayside School of Dance in 1996. In 1999 she graduated from the Australian Ballet School Advanced Diploma of Dance Teaching with Distinction.

2000 saw the Bayside School of Dance change its identity to dancentre@BAYSIDE, establishing a new look, doubling its numbers both in 2001 and 2002, and building a healthy reputation within the community.

During 2001 and 2002 Janine lectured in dance & drama at Victoria University in the School of Human Movement, Recreation and Performance.

In November 2004 Janine was inducted as an SFD Life Member.
